WAR GAMES

October’s AI selloff was a rehearsal. The next one runs on rails that reprice in seconds.

The Trigger

Start with what already happened, because none of it is hypothetical.

Between October 8 and 14, hedge funds erased two years of AI stock buying. Goldman Sachs reported the data on October 15.

Gross leverage sat at 310.3%, near a five-year high. Selling ran at 3.5 times the pace of new short bets.

Goldman’s basket of fund favourites fell 4.2% on October 22. That was its worst day since 2011.

Now add the two pieces that were not in place during that unwind. DTCC went live with tokenized securities on October 28.

On July 15, JPMorgan posted a tokenized ETF as margin at CME. Collateral that reprices continuously is now accepted at a clearing house.

The scenario is simple to state. A crowded AI trade unwinds again, and this time the collateral behind it is tokenized.

It reprices in real time. The margin call arrives in seconds, not in the morning.

The Propagation Path

Step one. The positions are the same positions.

Goldman’s Vincent Lin reported hedge funds net sold global AI stocks for five straight sessions. Long selling drove it, not new shorts.

Those positions took nearly two years to build. They took five days to unwind.

Loss limits fire together because the limits are similar. Dozens of funds reach for one door.

Step two. The collateral reprices at ledger speed.

Under the legacy system, variation margin calls arrive in the morning. Firms get hours to raise cash or deliver bonds.

With tokenized margin at a clearing house, the price feed runs live. The call can land at 2 a.m. on a Sunday.

ESMA raised exactly this in its October 9 call for evidence. It asked whether faster settlement creates broader liquidity risk or procyclicality.

The answer is arithmetic. A margin call that clears in minutes gives a firm minutes to respond.

Step three. The settlement asset goes dead mid-call.

The Binance hack on October 29 proved the tool exists. Tether and Circle froze more than $2.38 billion within hours.

Aave froze 292 lending pools across 16 chains the same day. One wallet had posted $60 million in USDT and borrowed $44.6 million in ETH.

Now scale that against the collateral pool. Tokenized Treasuries stood at $14.69 billion as of September 28, per tokenized asset market data.

Some of that settles in stablecoins. An issuer can freeze a wallet while a margin call is running.

The collateral stops being collateral in one block. Nobody has to default for that to happen.

Step four. The rulebook is blank.

The Bank of England opened a consultation on October 29. It asked how clearing houses should accept tokenized collateral.

Responses are due February 12, 2027. LCH still requires cash for variation margin.

No major clearing house has said how it would liquidate a token under stress. That is the gap, and consultations do not close it.

The IMF warned on April 2 that instant settlement removes the buffer. The window that lets a human intervene disappears with it.

The BIS flagged the feedback loop on June 28. Leveraged funds face fire sales, and those same funds hold sovereign bonds.

So an AI unwind feeds a collateral crunch. The collateral crunch feeds a Treasury squeeze.

Must-see new exposé

Or is it just going to trigger the next wave of massive AI gains?

For the first time ever…

Are coming together to answer that question.

If you're wondering how much longer can this AI boom last…

And what you should do with your money now…

Jeff Brown is a former tech executive who picked Nvidia in early 2016…

Who Bleeds

Clearing houses first. CME accepted a tokenized ETF as margin in July.

Picture that token at zero bid at 3 a.m. on a Sunday. No desk is staffed to sell it, and no auction protocol assumes a weekend.

The treatment mismatch makes it worse. Under the SEC’s no-action relief, DTCC will not count tokens as collateral in its own risk engine.

So one asset is margin at CME and nothing inside DTCC. Two systems, two answers, one position.

Funds bleed next, and the leverage number tells you how hard. Gross at 310.3% after an unwind means far more to sell than net exposure suggests.

Stablecoin issuers face a choice with no good answer. Freeze stolen funds and break collateral chains, or leave them and face the supervisor.

October answered that question. They freeze.

That instinct has a different cost when margin depends on the coin. The right call in a theft is the wrong call in a margin cycle.

Then the repo layer. Broadridge’s distributed ledger repo platform ran $359 billion a day in September.

A freeze or a fault at that scale is not an operational incident. It is a funding event.

OpenAI could trigger the biggest crash of our lifetime

If you don't trust Sam Altman …

I think you're onto something.

My research says he's hiding something so potent and revealing …

It could spark the biggest monetary crisis of our lifetime ….

As soon as Dec. 18 around 4 p.m.

That's when I believe he will be forced to reveal something …

That could trigger a $40 trillion wealth shift.

Early-Warning Indicators

Watch the gap between a tokenized fund’s price and the bonds behind it. A persistent spread means the token has stopped trading like the asset.

Watch clearing house haircuts on tokenized collateral. A rising haircut is doubt expressed in a number.

Watch stablecoin freeze volume. The $2.38 billion after Binance set the record, and a freeze during a live margin call is the real test.

Watch Goldman’s gross leverage print. At 310.3%, the spring is coiled.

Watch weekend activity on tokenized repo. If funding runs around the clock, so does the stress.

Watch the Bank of England consultation responses in February. The first clearing house to publish a token liquidation procedure sets the standard for everyone.

Territory

Territory: +incumbents on this failure mode.

Instant settlement removes the overnight window that lets a firm find cash and a human intervene, and that window is the slow system’s only remaining advantage.
