THE TAPE

Velocity is the metric, not supply. A flat float turned over nearly 26 times last month.

Tokenized real-world asset AUM

No fresh total landed again. The line still sits above $38 billion.

That is four weeks of flat. Value has stopped compounding while everything around it accelerates.

The year-to-date picture holds up. The base was just over $21 billion in January.

Treasuries remain the anchor near $16 billion. That is up from about $11 billion in March, so the growth is real and concentrated.

Circle's USYC still leads BlackRock's BUIDL at the top. Both sit in the $2.4 to $3.0 billion range.

Tokenized equities are the small fast mover. They passed $1 billion earlier this year, roughly 7% of the category.

AI-managed fund AUM and performance

Still no September print. The rule-based line reads 10.8% so far this year, per Goldman Sachs on July 9.

Human stockpickers led at 15.5% on that same date. Goldman put fundamental managers ahead all half.

Here is the detail worth sitting with. Goldman's midyear review found almost 85% of fundamental long/short gross alpha came from AI exposure.

For quants and multi-managers, AI alpha was much less significant. Humans beat the machines this year by trading the machines.

Allocators are unmoved by the June wobble. Half of those Goldman surveyed plan to add in the second half.

Inflows are running across every major strategy. That has not happened in five years.

Take a look at this…

It's smaller than a fingertip. It's made of glass. And it's about to reshape AI from the ground up.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO, says this device is shattering the limitations of AI and without it, AI can't scale.

Google Ventures says it's the future of AI compute.

And Sequoia Capital – the firm that backed Anthropic and OpenAI – calls it a "holy grail".

Yet most Americans have never heard of it…

Wall Street insider Jason Bodner – the same man who called Nvidia at $4.50 – says this critical "light-speed" device could be bigger for AI than GPUs… and it's about to launch a whole new wave of AI winners. And to prove it, he's giving away his #1 stock involved with it – for free.

On-chain settlement volume

Second straight acceleration, and a bigger one. Monthly transfer volume hit $7.84 trillion as of September 12, up 47.77% over thirty days.

Nine days earlier it was $7.04 trillion. Call it $800 billion added in under two weeks.

The float went almost nowhere. Stablecoin market cap reached $304.77 billion, up 2.40% over the month.

Divide one by the other. That is about 25.7 turns a month, against 23 at the last Tape.

Active addresses are the confirming signal. They rose 7.23% to 56.75 million, after a 2.46% gain last time.

Holders climbed too, up 1.41% to 288.09 million. More wallets, more turns, same money.

One honest note on measurement. A separate tracker put the total at $302.8 billion on September 10.

Different trackers count different things. The direction agrees, the decimal does not.

Concentration has not changed. USDT holds about $183 billion and USDC about $74 billion.

Legacy fee pool compression

Quiet for the third Tape running. No new named cut landed in the window.

The FCA entry still stands. Its August 3 policy statement takes about £108 million a year out of UK trade reporting costs.

The DBS target belongs here too. Credit memo work eats up to 40% of a relationship manager's time, and the bank wants 30% of that back.

Watch October for the next move. Third-quarter bank guidance is when cost programs get named.

Institutional crossover moves

Three named entries this period.

ICE and tZERO signed on August 31. tZERO becomes a design partner for the transfer agent layer on ICE's planned tokenized venue.

ICE also licensed 103 blockchain patents in the deal. That is an exchange buying the record layer.

Standard Chartered expanded direct institutional bitcoin and ether trading in the UAE. A global bank now runs a spot crypto desk for clients.

Delaware Life is the odd one and the interesting one. It is adding a BlackRock bitcoin-balanced index to its fixed index annuity range.

That makes it the first insurance carrier offering an index containing crypto. Retirement products are a slow, sticky distribution channel.

Off the Board

The SEC holds a roundtable on September 17. The topic is round-the-clock US trading with major institutions.

The SEC also proposed letting blockchain systems support official shareholder records. The share register is the next battleground.

CME's compute futures target October 5, pending CFTC review. Two contracts on GPU rental rates.

Treasury's stablecoin comment window closes October 19. The OCC targets final GENIUS Act rules by November.

Illinois still starts collecting its 0.2% digital asset transfer tax on January 1. Two lawsuits are pending and neither has been decided.

Commentary

The settlement line is now the only line moving, and it is moving hard for the second Tape in a row. Velocity climbed from 20 turns a month to nearly 26 in three weeks while the float sat flat, which means the growth is usage rather than new money. Watch whether tokenized asset value finally breaks its four-week stall, because a settlement layer running this hot with a static asset layer above it is an unstable arrangement.

Territory

Territory: +machines on settlement.

On-chain dollar velocity rose from 20 turns a month to nearly 26 in three weeks.
